 Arts and Social Science

The faculty of Arts and Social Science offers a wide range of subjects in the following departments:

  • Language, Literature, Music and Visual Culture
    • The subject area of this school includes English; Music; Modern Languages and Culture; Language and Linguistics; Film and Visual Culture; Celtic and Anglo-Saxon Studies; Translation and Interpreting.
  • Law:
    • The School of Law offers a wide variety of LLB degrees. This includes the LLB with English Law and more.
  • Social Science
    • The school of Social Science offers courses in the subject areas of Anthropology, Politics and International Relations, Sociology.

Life Sciences and Medicines

The schools incorporating the Life Sciences and Medicine are:

  • Biological Sciences
    • The school has wide range of well-established research facilities which such as the Aquarium Facility (Fresh water with three independent streams and seawater tank comprising 30 tanks); Environmental Analytical Suite (microwave digestion, traditional digestion blocks, Kjeldhal and Soxhlet capabilities).
  • Medicine, Medical Sciences and Nutrition
    • The school offers a wide range of courses in various domains. However, the school is specialized in the following subject areas
      • Medicine
      • Dentistry
      • Medical Sciences
    • Psychology
      • All the courses offered by the school are accredited to the British Psychological Society (BPS)
      • The specialized subject areas of the school include Mental Health, Organizational Psychology, Applied Development Psychology.

Physical Science

The faculty offers a wide-ranging portfolio of Engineering and energy related programmes which are strongly supported by industry. The schools incorporating the Physical Sciences are:

  • Engineering
    • The school of Engineering offers wide range of courses in the subject areas including:

      • Civil and Structural Engineering

    • All the courses of the school are accredited by the Engineering Council.
    • The school has many well-established facilities which gives practical experience to the students during their period of study. The facilities include Laboratories dedicated to satellite communications, computer aided design, electrical machines, materials testing, laser welding, hydraulics and fluids, concrete, large structures and geotechnics.
  • Geosciences
    • The school comprises of four departments namely:
      • Archaeology
        • The department of Archeology has many facilities including the Petrographic and stereomicroscopes; Palynology laboratory; Hydrology laboratory; Dirty and clean sedimentary laboratories; Soil chemistry laboratory; Bioarchaeology laboratory and faunal reference collection; Archaeological Chemistry laboratory; Trace Element Speciation Laboratory.
      • Geography and Environment
        • All the courses of this department are accredited to The Geological Society
        • The facilities of the department include the Art visualisation and seismic interpretation facilities; microscopy, petrophysics, palynology and geochemistry laboratories.

      • Planetary sciences
        • The department has developed collaborations with many institutes include the Desert Research Institute (USA); National Centre for Scientific Research (France); Jawaharlal Nehru University (India); Roscosmos (Russia); University of Vilnius (Ludhiana) and more
